Newcastle Untied officials have told Atlanta United that they will not be adjusting their offer for Miguel Almiron as the two sides find themselves around £10million apart for the Paraguayan, according to the Northern Echo.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Magpies have been involved in negotiations for the attacking midfielder but that they are not willing to go above £15.5million in their pursuit for his signature and have told the MLS side such.

However, it is stated Atlanta value their star man at £25million and are also adamant that they will not be lowering their demands, leaving the clubs at a stalemate.

Opinion

Surprise, surprise – Newcastle United not willing to be engaged in any sort of negotiations when it comes to a transfer. The Magpies – or should that be owner Mike Ashley – are notorious in trying to get a bargain out of anything and everything and it seems that is exactly the situation that they find themselves in with Almiron. His form this season has been tremendous with 13 goals and 13 assists and while the St James’ Park outfit might argue that his fine performances have come in a lesser league, and therefore worth less than someone who is doing the same in a top European division, he looks a quality player for both club and country. Still, this looks like a battle that is taking place between a rock and a hard place, with neither party willing to move in their valuations. The only loser will be Newcastle, who miss out on a top talent, and the winner will be whoever meets Atlanta’s asking price this month. There will be someone, and the Magpies will be left to rue their missed opportunity for years to come.
