OPINION
Talk emerged on Wednesday of a Newcastle United ‘mystery striker’ deadline-day deal from a Sky Sports journalist. In the wake of the landmark win over Manchester City, the permanent signing of Miguel Almiron for a club-record fee and the loan-to-buy capture of Antonio Barreca, United fans were left rubbing their eyes in disbelief. Daily Telegraph correspondent Luke Edwards has now put some meat on the bones of the striker deal by revealing on his personal Twitter account that the player is one who is already at the club, Salomon Rondon. As he explains, Newcastle want to extend the Venezuela forward’s stay at St James’ Park. He claimed this was “rather disappointing”, but supporters of the club disagree. They believe Rondon would be a first-class permanent signing. He scored the equaliser against City, his sixth league goal from 18 appearances this season, and has won over fans who admire his ability to lead the attack. They are unanimous in wanting him to stay beyond his season-long loan.

I would rather have Rondon that a mystery. We always play the lone striker https://t.co/y889QxFr4G with Almiron behind him.Perez will be our sub striker. But Joselu will probs stay. Then Gayle May come back in the summer who knows….
