Everton defender Cuco Martina is to be recalled from his loan at Stoke City but will swiftly exit to join Feyenoord on a temporary basis until the end of the season, according to Daily Mail reporter Dominic King.

The journalist for the national newspaper reported, via his personal Twitter account, that the 29-year-old’s loan move to Feyenoord will be made permanent once the summer window opens, ending his time as a Toffees player.

Martina has featured regularly for Stoke on loan this season and has made a grand total of 17 appearances for them in the Championship.

Good move for Everton?

Yes.

The 6ft tall Everton player (Source: Transfermarkt) played out of position for the Toffees last season when they were struggling for left-backs and his contributions should be appreciated.

However Martina isn’t a player that will help the team take great strides forwards and Marco Silva welcomed superior defenders to him in the summer, hence why he was loaned out to Stoke.

While the 29-year-old has been doing okay for the Championship side, his performances don’t suggest he’ll be good enough again for the Toffees in the near future so securing him a permanent move makes a lot of sense.

Likely to happen?

Definitely.

It seems like the wheels are in motion to get Martina to Feyenoord as he is being recalled from his loan at Stoke to enable a deal to occur.

Also given the fact the defender’s Toffees contract only runs until 2020 and him being so far out of the first-team picture, it seems likely there shouldn’t be any hurdles standing in the way of this deal.

It’s the best case scenario for all the clubs involved, perhaps barring Stoke who seem to have just lost a player of their squad on transfer deadline day.
