OPINION

It’s fair to say there is no a lot of social media love for Jordan Henderson. Especially from his own fans. Many of them crucified him during the opening half of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brighton on Saturday, which ended at 0-0. With James Milner dropped to the bench and Xherdan Shaqiri selected in one of three attacking midfield slots, Henderson lined up alongside Georginio Wijnaldum in a central midfield alliance. Liverpool dominated the opening period but some of the play from Henderson was too slow and cautious. His need to look at the teammate he is about to pass to for three seconds before doing so really grates. Talk about telegraphing passes. That said, Henderson is not in the side for his distribution or inventiveness. He is there to protect the defence, intercept, win the ball and pass it to someone more creative. Is it one too many having Henderson and Wijnaldum in the same team against heavily-manned defences. Certainly, made fans think that is the case.
