Paul Gascoigne took to Twitter in order to deliver his verdict on Leeds United having a member of staff lurking around Derby County’s training ground ahead of the two sides clashing.

The England legend went on a three-tweet rant to share that he was fuming over any suggestion that Derby could use a “spy” being used by Leeds as a reason for why they lost 2-0 on Friday night.

Gascoigne, better known as Gazza, revealed that you can’t claim talk of another club spying on you is a reason for a defeat and seem to hit out at any commentator that said otherwise.

“Just wanting2say about the LEEDS head coach getting some … about he had a spy watching how derby played ha2all commentators sssh… when I played I did not give a … who spied on me…so i spy watched me,seen how I played I would play… accept it u got beat,” tweeted Gazza on his official Twitter account.

“Sorry I’m fuming imagine me going in2 my manager saying so sorry4playing, because a spy at the gates was watching me train2all commentators are you’s getting paid extra4talking …& I’m sure frank lampard after the game said sorry guys we got beat because a spy watched us.

“Bill shankly’s house over looked Everton’s training ground you telling me the Everton players said I don’t want2play against Liverpool because bill shankly seen me train  I was spied on when I was 17yrs old so I packed in playing football,I got scared of match of the day xx.”

OPINION

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa confessed that he was responsible for a member of his staff being spotted near Derby’s training ground, as covered by BBC Sport,  but the issue is sure to be spoken about for many days. It seems it has even caught Gazza’s attention and he seems annoyed by any suggestion that Derby will blame their loss on the whole scenario. Yet in fairness to Derby and Frank Lampard that hasn’t appeared to be the case so Gazza’s anger shouldn’t be directed at them. Then again he does reference commentators speaking on the matter, perhaps meaning pundits, and you can see what he is trying to say. Gazza highlights the fact that legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly used to have a clear view of Everton’s training ground ahead of his side facing them in a Merseyside Derby, but that wouldn’t have been something would have that affected him as a player if he was playing. The retired footballer amusingly states that knowing you’d be on Match of the Day scared him more. Therefore it seems based on Gazza’s opinion of Leeds’ spy scandal, he believes it’s whole lot of fuss about nothing.
