Everton are interested in a deal for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, according to Le 10 Sport

The French news outlet report that the Toffees are on the hunt for potential replacements for Idrissa Gueye, who is a target for PSG despite the Ligue 1 giants being close to signing Leandro Paredes from Zenit St. Petersburg.

Le 10 Sport claim that Everton have been working on some possible alternatives if Gueye were to leave, with Red Devils star Herrera among the players they have considered.

Good move for Everton?

Absolutely.

Herrera may not be the most flashy or skilful midfielder, but he does a job and he does it well.

The Spain international is out of contract in the summer and could end up joining the Toffees on a free transfer then, or a cut-price deal now, which would be an absolute masterstroke from Marco Silva.

It is not often you get the chance to sign such a high-quality and experienced player for nothing (or on the cheap), and they would do well to snap him up.

Likely to happen?

For two reasons, no.

Firstly, PSG are close to signing Paredes from Zenit and are surely unlikely to splash out on another midfielder this month, which means Gueye is likely to stay.

Secondly, it is unlikely that Herrera would leave United for another English club, with a return to Spain more likely for the combative midfielder.
