The Leeds United loan spell of Lewis Baker is set to be ripped up with immediate effect, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim Baker’s parent club Chelsea are set to activate the recall option in the season-long loan that the attacking midfielder signed last summer by the Championship leaders.

Football Insider report the Premier League giants are eager for Baker to be playing more regular football and are set to loan him out to another English club for the rest of the campaign.

Good move for Leeds?

Yes, especially if it frees up the space on the wage bill to sign a playmaker or central attacking midfielder capable of hitting the Championship by storm in the second half of the season. Big things were expected of former England Under-21 international Baker but he has been trusted to make just two league starts out of 13 appearances in all competitions by Marcelo Bielsa despite being named in the matchday squad for all 26 of the club’s league matches this season. The 23-year-old had been a prolific scorer when on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland, but his career has stalled following a series of unsuccessful loans. Sunday’s meek display against QPR appears to have been his last in a Leeds shirt. It’s fair to say he won’t be missed.

Likely to happen?

Yes. Football Insider are a very reliable source of transfer news, and have an excellent track record when it comes to Leeds deals. It appears only a matter of time before there’s an official announcement that Baker is heading back to Chelsea. Expect one in the next 24 hours.
