Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Matt Polster could be announced as a new Rangers player any time soon.

The Light Blues appear as though they are on the verge of snapping up the 25-year-old right-back, who left Chicago Fire at the end of last year.

The one-time USA international has now jetted out to France in order to receive his work permit that will enable him to play for Rangers.

“That could be announced at any time. He has travelled to France to get the work permit application complete. We are confident that one will happen,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record via their live transfer blog on Tuesday [12:53pm].

OPINION

Rangers already have two right-back options in James Tavernier and Jon Flanagan but Polster should be a decent back-up option if either of those were to get injured in the second-half of the season. Polster can also play in the centre of the midfield and while Gerrard’s squad is well-stocked in that area, it won’t hurt to have the extra body around just in case. Polster has had his injury issues in the last year having only made three MLS appearances for Chicago in 2018 due to a serious knee injury. He is someone who has obviously impressed Gerrard though as the Gers boss played against him during his playing days with LA Galaxy and he has also had a trial at Auchenhowie. It must be quite a cheap deal too because Polster is currently unattached and the Gers wouldn’t be signing back-up players that are on big wages. All in all, this could be a clever addition by the Glasgow side.
