Leicester City are keeping close tabs on Leeds United youngster Jordan Stevens, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper’s live transfer blog (Tuesday, 1.25pm) claims that the Premier League club are rivalling Middlesbrough in tracking the midfielder, 18, who was signed from Forest Green Rovers in January of last year.

The Mirror report the two clubs have been “regular visitors” to Leeds’ Under-23s to see Stevens in action as they make multiple checks on the teenager.

All the transfer talk of late has surrounded another Leeds 18-year-old fast-tracked into the first team this season by Marcelo Bielsa – Jack Clarke. Like the home-grown Clarke, who has been at United since before he was 10, Stevens has made his senior bow this season. He was granted an appearance from the substitute’s bench during the recent 2-1 league defeat to Stoke City, and was also an unused sub in the matches against Rotherham and Derby County. A central midfielder who can also play at right-back, Stevens’ reputation has soared in recent times and he has been one of the many youthful beneficiaries of the Leeds senior player injury crisis. Leicester and Boro will almost certainly be aware that Stevens’ contract at Leeds is due to expire in the summer of next year, which means United are vulnerable to an offer for the youngster. Just like they should with Clarke, Leeds must tie Stevens down to a new and improved contract to fend off the Premier League interest.
