Everton are plotting a bid worth up to £22million to sign Roma forward Edin Dzeko, according to Calcio Mercato Web.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Toffees want to sign the former Manchester City striker as they are planning to cash in on Cenk Tosun, who has failed to impress on Merseyside since signing from Besiktas in January 2018.

It is understood that Roma would consider letting Dzeko leave them as he turns 33-years-old in March and is earning around £4million-a-year on his deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

Good move for Everton?

Marco Silva could do a lot worse than signing Dzeko, but he could also do a lot better.

Everton have really struggled to sign quality centre-forwards before and after Romelu Lukaku’s spell at Goodison Park, so it seems as though Silva wants someone who is a bit more experienced and already proven in the Premier League to spearhead his attack.

Dzeko has the ability to stick the ball in the back of the net, but he is almost 33-years-old and is by no means a long-term option for the Blues, who need to find themselves someone a bit younger.

The 6ft 4 (transfermarkt) colossus would be a good short-term fix, but only if they can sign him for a lot less than what they are reportedly planning.

Likely to happen?

Silva did a lot of work in the summer to lower the average age of his playing squad, so the chances of him signing a 32-year-old for over £20million have to be very low.

It is understandable that he would want to get rid of Tosun after a miserable 12 months in England for the Turkey international, but if he goes, Silva will more than likely want someone younger.
