Leeds are hoping to make two signings this week as they look to strengthen their squad to get them over the line and back into the Premier League this season, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that one of the signings will be a loan deal and the other will be a permanent signing.

The permanent signing is said to be a “young English talent identified by Bielsa”.

This is an interesting development. The two players that Leeds have been linked most closely to this January are Daniel James and Callum O’Dowda, but neither are English. Swansea winger James is a Wales international, while O’Dowda, although born in England, is an ROI international. It’s possible that the report is talking about O’Dowda but it would seem to rule out James. The good news for Leeds fans is that there is another player on the cards, who would arrive in a loan deal. Leeds fans will hope this is a playmaker to replace Samu Saiz, who left to go back to Spain before Christmas. A previous report had said that Leeds were plotting to make a bid for James this week, so it seems that either way the next few days will be the crunch period for Leeds in this transfer window. By the time they play Rotherham on Saturday, they could have another two players vying for a first-team place. Kiko Casilla is also likely to make his full debut that day. We can’t imagine that Marcelo Bielsa has got the former Real Madrid player in to leave him on the bench.
