BT Sport host Darrell Currie has claimed that Celtic are working hard to seal a last-minute right-back signing with the transfer window slamming shut on Thursday.

The Hoops have recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund right-back Jeremy Toljan, with the Daily Record reporting that talks are underway between the Scottish Premiership and Bundesliga leaders about a potential loan deal.

While it is understood that no agreement has been reached over the 24-year-old German at this stage, Currie believes that he could be the right-back that Celtic are pushing the boat out to sign.

When asked about the Toljan link, Currie said via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday: “All I know is they are working hard to bring one in. So maybe this is the man.”

OPINION

It should be a no-brainer for Celtic to push hard for a new right-back this month. They are more than likely going to need one in the summer anyway with Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa both being out of contract at the end of the season, so it would be a good idea to get one in sooner rather than later. Toljan is a good right-back as well. He may not be playing for Borussia Dortmund right now but that doesn’t mean he is a bad player. The 24-year-old was sensational for Hoffenheim before Dortmund signed him in August 2017, but for one reason or another, he has dropped down Lucien Favre’s pecking order. Toljan has the ability to play centrally and he can also play at left-back if needed. He is fast and has a good footballing brain, but his issue is that he has been prone to injuries at Dortmund. If he can stay fit then he should be a real asset for Brendan Rodgers in the second-half of the season.
