Celtic are in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund right-back Jeremy Toljan on loan, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the Hoops were negotiating with the Bundesliga leaders last night (Tuesday) but are yet to reach an agreement.

Toljan, 24, has struggled with injuries at Dortmund this season and has only made one appearance in all competitions.

Good move for Celtic?

Toljan would be a terrific addition for the Bhoys if Brendan Rodgers is able to agree a deal with Dortmund.

The former Germany Under-21 international would be a major upgrade on the existing right-back options at Celtic Park, but with Mikael Lustig and Christian Gamboa’s contracts expiring in the summer, it would make more sense if Rodgers was to sign a new right-back on a permanent basis.

Toljan should do well until the end of the season though and help Celtic win their third domestic treble in a row.

Likely to happen?

Toljan is not playing at all for Dortmund and there is a chance that the German giants could be open to sending the right-back out on loan.

The ex-Hoffenheim ace could be keen on joining a club that’s in the hunt for silverware and is still playing in the Europa League, but someone of his quality is bound to have more than just Celtic interested in him.

There is not long left of the transfer window, so the Bhoys need to move this one along as quick as possible.
