Former Kilmarnock manager Lee Clark has been drooling over Scott Arfield after the midfielder’s stunning performance in Rangers’ 1-0 win against Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday.

The Light Blues moved level on points with the Hoops at the top of the Scottish Premiership table thanks to a stellar display by pretty much every single player on the pitch.

Clark, who managed Arfield during his time at Huddersfield, has heaped praise on the Canada international for the impact he has had at Ibrox and claimed that Rangers were well worth their win in the Old Firm last week.

“I watched the Old Firm game at the weekend and Scott Arfield was just unbelievable,” Clark told the Daily Mail.

He added: “The amount of ground he covers is great. He has clearly matured over the years and he has become a lot more confident in his ability.

“He is having a huge effect on games for Rangers and, for me, he was one of the main men when Rangers beat Celtic at the weekend.

“Scott has helped give the Rangers team impetus, energy and quality. It was a fully deserved victory for Rangers on Saturday with Scott playing a central part in that.”

OPINION

Arfield has been a great signing for Rangers since joining the Ibrox giants in the summer transfer window from Burnley. The 30-year-old has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Gers, scoring six goals and supplying four assists in the process. He is so key to the way that Rangers player. In December he missed four Scottish Premiership games due to injury, of which the Gers managed to win just one. In the four league games he did play in last month, he was on the winning side three times, with the other game resulting in a draw. In fact, Rangers have not lost a domestic game that Arfield has started in since the 1-0 defeat at Livingston in September. It’s simplistic to say that the Light Blues fail to win when Arfield doesn’t play, but he does make one massive difference that’s for sure. Hopefully he can maintain his superb form in 2019.
