Celtic are set to announce Andrew Gutman as their fourth signing of the January transfer window today (Thursday), according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog [07:25am] that the 22-year-old defender will join Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo in completing a January move to Parkhead.

The Scottish Sun reported last week that the American left-back has agreed a deal with Celtic despite recently having a trial with Rangers.

Good move for Celtic?

Gutman will more than likely be Brendan Rodgers’ new third-choice left-back behind Kieran Tierney and Emilio Izaguirre.

The former Chicago Fire defender has never made a senior appearance in his career and last year he was played at college-level football in the USA for Indiana Hoosier.

He enjoyed a stellar 2018, but will he be good enough to make the huge step up to the Scottish Premiership?

It is going to be hard for Gutman to impress, but with the fact that he probably cost next to nothing, it might be a worthwhile signing.

Likely to happen?

Gutman seems to have been on the verge of signing for Celtic for weeks now, but the Daily Record appear very confident that Thursday is the day that his arrival at Parkhead will be made official.

It remains to be seen how he will fit in at the club and whether or not he will get into the first team this season, but that might be made clear once an announcement is made.
