Andrew Gutman is due to earn a work permit before finalising his switch to join Celtic, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 22-year-old left-back has agreed a deal with the Hoops and is now expected to sign for them once he receives international clearance.

The American defender, who has been playing college-level football in the USA, recently had a trial with Rangers.

Good move for Celtic?

It is hard to tell how this one is going to go because not many people have seen Gutman play.

The Illinois-born defender is a product of the Chicago Fire academy but has never made a senior appearance having made his name for himself in college-level football in the States.

Does that really qualify for him to go into the first team of title-chasing Celtic? Probably not.

However Brendan Rodgers and his staff will know a lot more than anyone else about Gutman, so it is down to their judgement.

Likely to happen?

Gutman needs to earn a work permit, but has never made a senior appearance or international appearance in his career.

Judging by that you must say that it could be hard for him to get clearance to sign for the Glasgow giants, but why would Rangers and Celtic both have a look at him if they were going to reach nothing but a dead-end?
