West Brom fans will be delighted to know that Giles Barnes is unlikely to be offered a deal to re-sign for the Black Country club.

The Sun on Sunday claimed via it’s print edition [page 63, January 20] that Darren Moore was set to offer the 30-year-old a deal after impressing him on the recent mid-season training camp in Dubai.

However while Barnes has been training with his former club in a bid to keep up his fitness levels, the Express & Star has now reported that the Jamaica international is unlikely to be offered a permanent stay at The Hawthorns, despite what the national newspaper had mooted.

Barnes is nowhere near good enough to get into the West Brom first team, and Albion fans will be thrilled to have their fears allayed over Moore offering the attacker a deal.

During his previous spell at the club, Barnes arrived as a highly-rated young player, but he failed to make any sort of impact as he managed just 28 appearances in all competitions without scoring a single goal.

Barnes has since been playing in the USA and Mexico, and at his last club Colorado Rapids, he only made 12 MLS appearances before his contract ended.

If you cannot get a game in MLS then you can’t be expected to be any good for a top Championship team that has it’s eyes on promotion to the Premier League.

Albion may not have all the money in the world, but there have to be better options out there than Barnes.

Luckily for the supporters, it seems that he won’t get the chance to play again in the blue and white stripes.
