While most fans will be struggling to understand exactly why Paris Saint-Germain seem desperate to sign Everton’s defensive midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye this month, the supporters at Aston Villa will not be among them.

Sky Sports have reported that the French giants are looking to snap up the 29-year-old’s capture before Thursday’s deadline and that they have tabled a £21.5million bid for his services – rivals of the Toffees likely saying that there are plenty more fish in the see for the Ligue 1 side to chase.

The truth is only those who have watched Gueye on a regular basis – and then seen him drop out the side through injury, suspension or sale – will know just what an influence he has on any side he plays for, with the Villans having enjoyed a year of him on their books before his move to Merseyside.

It was a switch born out of Villa’s relegation to the Championship and PSG’s interest will be of no surprise to fans in the midlands, who may have been hoping for a little boost themselves through a potential sell-on clause.

Unfortunately for the Villa Park faithful, the Birmingham Mail claim that unlike other departures from the club Gueye’s exit had no such deal in place – and it is something that the club will be kicking themselves for.

Any sort of financial boost right now would be warmly welcomed an even a 10 per cent cut of a future sale would have seen a hefty £2.15million into the Villa coffers this month if Everton accepted the reported PSG offer.

With interest building over Gueye it looks like a massive oversight that the Villans did not get some sort of agreement in place and they will instead have to watch on in jealousy at what Everton are set to pocket.
