OPINION
Neal Maupay is on fire for Brentford, but there are surely doubts about whether he would be able to settle down at Aston Villa and continue the form he has shown at Griffin Park this season. Maupay has scored 15 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions for Brentford this season, and with a goalscoring record like that, it’s not a surprise that many Aston Villa fans want Dean Smith to sign his former striker in the January transfer window. Tammy Abraham could be leaving the club this month after The Sun reported on Wednesday that Chelsea have accepted an £18million bid from Wolves for the 21-year-old. Villa are only 10th in the Championship table as it stands with a player who has proven himself capable of scoring regular goals in this league. However even that has not been enough for them to be serious promotion contenders. Maupay is decent but there’s still the chance of him being a one-season wonder. Villa should look for someone who is more proven in the league that the ex-France Under-21 international.

Remarkable stat below that all Tammy Abraham’s goals in the PL & Championship have been scored inside the box. Another lethal fox in the box is Neal Maupay who I’d be all over like a rash if Tammy did leave this window #AVFC https://t.co/t40MBbSyat

If #Wolves sign @tammyabraham for £18m then they will have made an incredible signing. Won’t be happy at all but good luck to the lad. Class player. Sign Maupay. Get rid of some deadwood & focus on backline. #UTV #AVFC #VTID

Hogan would score in this team. If we can sort out our defence we won't need to score as many. If Abraham goes I can see us signing Maupay in the summer at the latest #avfc

Agreed – I think Maupay is the better overall striker, was class at VP in August.
