Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama would be open to joining another Premier League club based in the south, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [03:14am] that the 27-year-old is a “shock” loan target for West Brom after the Daily Mail reported that Spurs are willing to cash in on him.

It is understood that Wanyama would rather stay put at Tottenham, but he would consider moving to another top-flight club in the south of the country.

Good move for Tottenham?

Wanyama has been troubled by injuries this season and even once he returns to fitness, it is going to be hard for him to get into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans due to how well Moussa Sissoko has been playing.

The Kenya international could fetch Spurs a decent transfer fee and there are definitely better players out there that Pochettino could sign to replace him.

It wouldn’t be ideal for him to go on loan to Championship promotion contenders West Brom, but it also wouldn’t be ideal for him to join a London or Premier League rival.

Maybe a return to Southampton is on the cards?

Likely to happen?

Wanyama appears happy to stay put and that could be problematic for Tottenham as they try to cash in on the ex-Celtic midfielder.

West Brom are definitely not going to be able to lure him to the second-tier and Spurs are going to be apprehensive about letting him join a local rival.

January has only just started but it seems like there will be more developments on Wanyama’s future throughout the month.
