The days when Craig Gordon was the best and most reliable goalkeeper in Scotland have gone. He got out of jail after making the Loris Karius-style horrible error in the second half on Thursday night when he rolled the ball straight to Fredrik Gulbrandsen, who knocked the ball into a virtually empty goal. Celtic lost 2-1 at home to Salzburg but Tore Reginiussen’s shock equaliser four minutes from time for Rosenborg against RB Leipzig saved Gordon’s bacon and secured the Hoops the gift of a Europa League knockout-stage place they barely deserved. Celtic might be through but it does not hide the fact that Gordon makes too many big-match errors for a keeper of his vast experience. Allan McGregor at Rangers is clearly now the superior keeper, with the Celtic man’s occasionally brilliant reflex saves failing to compensate for the errors he makes. Many Celtic fans appear to be accepting that after the Europa League drama.
