BBC Sport pundit Alex Rae has delivered his verdict on his old club’s win against Celtic on Saturday, saying it was as comfortable a win as the fans will have seen in years.

The Gers went ahead in the first half after 30 minutes after Ryan Jack’s effort went straight through the legs of Hoops midfielder Scott Brown, and this result means that Steven Gerrard’s team are now level on 42 points with their fierce rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Despite their overall dominance, Rangers were unable to add more goals to their tally after a number of opportunities – but Rae still took to his personal Twitter account to praise every aspect of the team’s win in the Old Firm Derby.

He said: “FT Rangers FC 1-0 Celtic. As comfortable a win the Gers following have seen in many a year, they won every individual battle and thoroughly deserve the 3 points.”

OPINION

Nobody thought Rangers would have come out and dominated in the way that they did on Saturday. They were magnificent from the start, and were it not for the excellent saves from Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon, the Gers would have been a few goals up by half-time. The Hoops were hanging on by the skin of their teeth by this point, especially after Ryan Jack put Rangers ahead in the 30th minute. They were incredibly unlucky not to have got more goals on the scoresheet in this match, and as Rae pointed out, they won every “individual battle” in a convincing manner. Rangers dominated all over the field, and Gerrard will no doubt be ecstatic with the way his team performed. If they continue playing like this, then there may be a fierce title race to witness this year – something which the Gers fans have been waiting a while for.
