Mick Quinn took to Twitter to praise Newcastle United for taking a point against Watford on Saturday at the Vicarage Road but said the result was a “bit of a choker”.

The ex-Magpies striker praised manager Rafa Benitez on his personal Twitter account after the 1-1 draw with the Hornets at the weekend, a result which means that they now sit in 15th place in the Premier League.

Quinn also said “the boys did well”, but added it was a “bit of a choker” for the team to concede the equaliser.

“Bit of a choker coinciding the equaliser but Rafa and the boys did well Every Premier League point is precious and a Safe journey home to all NUFC fans,” he said.

OPINION

Newcastle got another point on the board on Saturday, so it comes as no surprise that one of their former players has taken to Twitter to heap praise on that. However, a point is not sufficient enough after they were thumped 4-0 by Liverpool on Boxing Day. The Magpies should have won this game after Salomon Rondon’s superb header put them in front, but they only have themselves to blame for conceding an equaliser around ten minutes from time. They cannot afford to let games slip like they did on Saturday, otherwise they are pretty much destined to go down from the start. Newcastle showed glimpses of quality against Watford, but overall, it was a pretty average performance from Benitez’ side. The team must do a lot better next time – but seeing as they will be taking on a newly-resurgent Manchester United side, who knows what will happen. One of the positives that they can take away from this, however, is that they were not condemned to a last-minute defeat.
