OPINION
Why are Erik Lamela’s performances either at one extreme or the other? On his day, the attacker can be phenomenal for Tottenham but when he is off the boil he is really, really bad. Some Spurs fans have torn the Argentine to shreds for his display against Burnley and you cannot blame them because he should have done a lot better against a team that the London club should be beating with ease. When players like Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son are left out, Lamela simply has to perform but he did not do it at Wembley on Saturday. Mauricio Pochettino needs to realise that although Lamela is loved by a lot of fans, he is prone to these stinkers and he should not be handed a spot in his starting line-up for these types of games. Lamela would be more effective against a team who can be exposed on the break. Burnley will sit back and make him work hard to score, which is something he struggled at on Saturday.
