OPINION
Mauricio Pochettino caused a bit of a shock when he named Oliver Skipp to start in Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Burnley, but the 18-year-old had many Spurs fans all purring over him for his fine display – and you cannot blame them. Spurs fans love it when Pochettino promotes a youth player into the first team. Some of them haven’t worked out like Marcus Edwards, but some of them have like Harry Winks. Hopefully Skipp can follow in the footsteps of the latter, and judging by the reactions of some Tottenham fans, they are confident that he can. Pochettino showed a lot of faith in Skipp to start him and although Spurs did not score with him on the pitch, he can hardly be blamed for what was mainly a toothless display by the London club. If he can continue to impress in the Under-23s and get into Pochettino’s matchday plans every now and then, he is bound to be a success for Tottenham.
