It was a case of eating a big slice of humble pie for many Tottenham fans who will have been shocked after stand-in goalkeeper produced heroics at the Emirates to help Tottenham to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino had revealed in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that Gazzaniga would play and many Spurs fans took to Twitter to slam Pochettino for not playing his strongest team.

In fact one fan went as far as to say ‘Bye bye league cup’ after choosing to start Gazzaniga – and yep, we assume he’s feeling rather foolish now.

It shouldn’t have been a surprise that Gazzaniga played – he’s played in each of the EFL Cup matches before tonight and one pretty well in both games.

And he made two brilliant saves in the first-half, the second keeping out a fierce shot from Alex Iwobi that he managed to push onto the post.

Goals from Son heung-Min and Dele Alli made the difference at the other end but Gazzaniga played a massive part in the goals too with some clever distribution and fans took to Twitter to praise him to the skies.

As one fan pointed out, he assisted the assister for both goals, what the fan called “doing a Modric”.

Here are the best reactions from Tottenham fans in awe of the stand-in keeper tonight:
