OPINION
Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to rotate his Tottenham players before the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Arsenal has weirdly received a mixed reception from a section of the club’s supporters. Pochettino has confirmed that impressive back-up goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga will start ahead of Hugo Lloris, while also suggesting that other changes might be made from the team that beat Burnley 1-0 on Saturday. Gazzaniga, 26, has played five times across all competitions this season and has looked completely assured in all of those outings, so for fans to question Pochettino’s decision to start him is quite odd, especially when number one goalkeeper Lloris has made some huge errors in big games this season. Lloris made one of the worst ever goalkeeper mistakes in a World Cup final in the summer and was notably shocking in the 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in October. Spurs have won every game that Gazzaniga has played this season, so why shouldn’t all fans be completely behind Pochettino’s decision to start the Argentine?
#thfc Pochettino on tomorrow’s cup tie against Arsenal: “Maybe I surprise you and don’t rotate too much.” Asked whether Gazzaniga will play, he says with a laugh: “Yes he will play. I’m going to rotate!”
