Rangers are set to table an offer for Tottenham left-sided flyer Jaden Brown in a bid to fend off Newcastle United and Huddersfield interest, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Glasgow giants are in hot pursuit of the left-back, 19, who is out of contract at the end of the season and could head out of north London next month rather than leave for nothing next summer.

Football Insider report Rangers are ready to firm up their interest with a bid for Brown, who is “keen to move to Ibrox” to ignite his career.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. Brown has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels and been a mainstay of the Tottenham Under-23s side in Premier League 2. He has yet to play for their senior side, but there is obviously intense competition for places and that should not be regarded as a lack of endorsement in his ability. Rangers have had problems at left-back in recent months despite the summer signing of Croatia international Borna Barisic, who has been affected by niggling injury problems. Neither Jon Flanagan or Andy Halliday have convinced at left-back and the decision to offload Declan John is looking a perplexing one.

Likely to happen?

It’s certainly possible. Rangers are a far more attractive proposition for rising stars from south of the border than at any time in the six years since their liquidation. An exciting team assembled by Premier League icon Steven Gerrard is emerging from under the shadow of Celtic and the club are showing a growing ambition in the transfer market. Given Brown is out of contract at the end of the season, this is a deal that could well get done next month despite the interest from Newcastle and Huddersfield.
