Rangers must attempt to sign Leicester City striker Shinji Okazaki in the January transfer window with the club in need of extra reinforcements.

The Gers are not blessed with a number of options in the centre-forward department, with Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty the players must worthy of a mention in that position.

This is why Rangers should consider a swoop for Okazaki, as he could be the answer to their striker woes.

Seeing as Gers director of football Mark Allen admitted to the Herald that the club are after a new forward in the transfer market, a move for the Japanese star makes complete sense – so Gerrard must make a move to fix one of his key areas in January.

The 32-year-old has largely played as second fiddle to the likes of Jamie Vardy and Demerai Gray and there will no doubt come a time when he is fed up of playing the role of the understudy at the King Power Stadium – despite being a firm favourite of the Foxes faithful thanks to his work ethic and energy.

Steven Gerrard must pray that this turn of events comes about in the next transfer window, as joining forces would allow Okazaki to get more game time under his belt.

He has nine appearances to his name in the Premier League at the moment, but some of those have come from the bench, and ideally, he will not want that to be a regular occurrence.

He is currently on £35,000-a-week  according to Spotrac, which is a wage that the club will more than likely to match, alongside his potential transfer fee.

The attacker netted seven goals in 32 appearances last season, which is not the worst return – but with regular game time, that figure will surely be handed a major boost.

The Japan international has made a total of 102 top-flight appearances during his career so far so there is no doubting that he has the experience to make a name for himself with Rangers.
