Many rival fans accused Wolves of buying their way to the Championship title last season but it is clear that the millions of pounds invested by owners Fosun International were preparing the club for their Premier League campaign.

The Molineux outfit walked to the second tier title and have made an impressive start to life back in the top flight, with their most recent win over Chelsea perhaps the proudest result claimed to date.

There have been some big signings made by the club – helped by their connections with super agent Jorge Mendes – with the likes of Portuguese stars Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho joining fellow countryman and manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The club have high hopes for the future and want to be battling at the top of England’s elite – but to get there they are going to have to continue to invest not only heavily but wisely to secure the top talent required to make the difference.

French publication Le 10 Sport claim that Wolves have launched scouting missions in France to try and find the sort of player who can improve their squad, with Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, who also plays as a centre forward, said to have been someone to seriously catch their eye.

Now the report states that due to the interest in the 23-year-old, who has 10 goals and seven assists to his name, Wolves do not stand a chance of securing his capture – but that is where their owners’ millions come into play.

The fact of the matter is that money talks and the ability to offer a big money transfer fee, not to mention a hefty contract for the player, means that Wolves have every chance of pulling off a shock swoop for the highly rated talent.

He is one of the hottest pieces of property in European football right now and by sealing him as a marquee signing, Wolves would be making a serious statement of intent to their rivals.
