Rangers are hoping to fend off interest from Celtic, Derby County and Sunderland to sign Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara in the January window, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Light Blues have been keeping close tabs on the midfield enforcer, 23, who is out of contract at Dens Park at the end of the season.

The Mail report Dundee are braced for interest in Kamara in January and Derby boss Frank Lampard has already made an approach for the player as he looks to beat old England colleague Steven Gerrard to his signature.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. Kamara has been a revelation for Dundee since joining the Scottish Premiership outfit in the summer of 2017 from Arsenal. The midfielder’s energy, mobility and skill in winning the ball and then distributing it expertly have made him one of the best players in his position in the Scottish Premiership over the last two years. Capped nine times by Finland, Kamara has real pedigree and he would provide a new dimension for Rangers in the middle of the pitch. Reports suggest they are in the market for a central midfield anchorman in January as well as Southampton ace Steven Davis. Kamara would fit the bill and, given his Arsenal upbringing, he will have an understanding of the requirements of delivering at a huge club.

Likely to happen?

There’s a good chance, given Rangers have been reportedly tracking the 23-year-old for some time. One thing in their favour as they look to blow Celtic out of the water is that there is more chance of Kamara playing regularly for them that in the east end of Glasgow, especially if Scott Brown signs a new contract, as he surely will.
