Rangers have denied they hold any interest in a January deal for Gillingham striker Tom Eaves, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper report in their live transfer blog [Tuesday, 09:50], that a Rangers source has rubbished claims that the Light Blues were pursuing a January deal for the prolific striker.

This is a major update in the story considering Sky Sports claimed on Monday that the Gers were in the hunt for Eaves, who is the top scorer in League One this season with 12 goals so far.

Good move for Rangers?

Eaves has been in prolific form this season for Gillingham, with his 12 goals in the league complimented by one more in the EFL Cup to take his tally to 13 in all competitions.

The 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt] colossus is a powerful hit man who could potentially be a solid addition, but there would be questions over his ability to make such a big step up in level to the Premiership.

It would also seem a strange move when Gerrard already has Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty at his disposal in that position.

Likely to happen?

According to the Daily Record, no.

It seems as though Sky’s claims yesterday were premature, with Rangers now reportedly claiming they have no interest in such a deal.

And, considering the need to strengthen in other areas, it would not be surprising if that was indeed the case.
