It should not just have been Liverpool fans and all those craving a semblance of a Premier League title race who should have been celebrating Divock Origi’s memorable last-gasp winner against Everton on Sunday.

Rangers supporters should also have been jumping around their living rooms in delight as it boosts their chances of sealing the January loan signing of Dominic Solanke.

It was a deal the Light Blues reportedly wanted to do in the summer, with the Scottish Sun claiming the England Under-21 striker was the number one priority for Steven Gerrard.

Reports have intensified in recent weeks that Rangers are still keen on landing Solanke, especially as he has not had a single senior minute of action at Liverpool this season.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp is likely to offload one of Solanke and Divock Origi in January.

The Belgium international’s predatory finish against Everton will not only ensure Jordan Pickford doesn’t sleep for a week but also aid the player’s chances of re-establishing himself at Anfield after slipping down the pecking order over the last two seasons.

That opens the door for Rangers to move for Solanke, safe in the knowledge that their hopes of landing him have been massively bolstered.

The 21-year-old could make a huge impact at Ibrox in the second half of the season. He is quick, powerful and technically gifted with an eye for goal. Having spent 18 months at Liverpool after quitting Chelsea, he is able to operate anywhere across the forward line, even though his preference is as the attack spearhead.

Gerrard will have pulled off a masterstroke if he signs his third player of the campaign from his former club.
