Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is being made to wait patiently by former club Liverpool over a reunion for striker Dominic Solanke this summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper report that the 20-year-old forward is the Anfield legend’s number one target in the transfer window as he plots to take the youngster on loan, having watched him develop at the Reds over the last year.

However, it is said that Jurgen Klopp is going to make his former youth coach sweat over whether he can pull off the stunning swoop for the one-cap England international, to ensure he has enough striking options next season with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane embarking on international duty.

Good move for Rangers?

Absolutely.

The youngster might have a lack of starts under his belt since moving from Chelsea last summer but he has still managed to appear 27 times across all competitions, including getting some Champions League minutes to his name.

He is one of the brightest young talents not only at Liverpool but in the England setup and his arrival at Ibrox would be a breath of fresh air after seeing veteran Kenny Miller leave at the end of his contract.

It is an ambitious swoop but the sort of move Rangers need to close down Celtic at the top of the Premiership.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on how much of a favour Jurgen Klopp wants to give Gerrard now he has left for Ibrox.

Solanke really could do with more action and while playing in the Scottish league would give him that, it is not at the level the Reds would really want him turning in at week in, week out.

If another Premier League side come calling, the German might have to dash the Gers’ hopes and send him there instead for the good of his career.
