OPINION

At the beginning of the season you would have been forgiving for thinking that Robert Snodgrass’ time at West Ham was coming to an end. Phased out under previous regimes to the point that he spent last season out on loan at Championship side Aston Villa, the Scotsman looked to have fallen down the pecking order behind new summer signings like Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson. Fast forward four months and the 31-year-old has become one of the most dangerous members of Manuel Pellegrini’s side. A series of injuries has seen him restored to the Hammers’ side, and he is making good on his opportunity. With three assists in his previous two matches, the winger fuelled the hype building around him with a stunning goal against Crystal Palace at the London Stadium on Saturday, leading to an outpouring of admiration from Irons fans. Technically he may not be as gifted as some of the players set to make their return to fitness in coming weeks, but there can be little doubting his work ethic and attitude, and if he keeps this standard up, he may take some shifting from his starting berth.
