West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass has suggested that the Hammers are growing in confidence every week.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side ran out 3-0 winners in a confident display against Newcastle United on Saturday, and the Scottish midfielder claims that the Irons are getting stronger.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “Each week we feel more confident with each other.

“The board spent a lot of money on new players with different cultures, and they need to get used to us and we need to get used to them as well.

“The Premier League is a really tough league and anyone would need that settling in period.

“Now you’re starting to see the best of players, with small glimpses of players like [Felipe] Anderson who popped up with two goals against Burnley. This is why they’ve been brought in, to make us better.”

OPINION

West Ham really shouldn’t be in the position they are at the moment. The squad they have assembled has, on paper, more than enough quality to be pushing for a top eight finish at least and it’s something of a mystery as to why they are toiling away just above the relegation zone. There seems to be a bizarre culture of underachievement pervading the London Stadium, and it’s difficult to say what the Hammers need to do to break out of their constant malaise. In the short term, the win over Newcastle at St. James’ Park could prove to be crucial. The Irons have a very favourable festive period ahead of them and if they can beat the likes of Cardiff, Fulham, Burnley, and Southampton then they could really rocket up the table. On more than one occasion they’ve proven that they can take points off the biggest teams in the league, if they can just sort out their consistency issues then the Hammers might finally blossom.
