Tottenham centre-back Davinson Sanchez was named on the bench for the Boxing Day thrashing of Bournemouth, and in his place was young defender Juan Foyth.

Foyth has undergone somewhat of a transformation this season after being introduced into the first team fold a while ago, and it is safe to say that the 20-year-old has impressed in the appearances he has been handed.

Sanchez is also in the fold following his recent problems with injury, but one thing is for certain – Mauricio Pochettino must resist the urge to recall the £60,000-a-week [Spotrac] star in favour of the young ace.

After all, Spurs have coped rather well without Sanchez, so what is the need to suddenly start playing him regularly once again?

Foyth deserves to get more minutes under his belt, as it is clear that Tottenham have a real gem in the making here – we have already seen glimpses of what he can do.

He appears to be going from strength to strength with every game he plays, which can only be good news for Pochettino.

The defender must be started against Wolves on Saturday ahead of Sanchez, if only to break him into the first team that little bit more.

He does not deserve to be relegated to the bench after the way he has adapted playing for one of the Premier League’s top teams – he should be thoroughly rewarded.

The defender looked comfortable playing alongside Toby Alderweireld against the Cherries on Wednesday, so Pochettino must disappoint Sanchez by opting for the same centre-back duo against Wolves.

Foyth is just one of the reasons why the manager does not need to add to his squad in the January transfer window, as he just adds to the incredible depth the team already possesses.

The young Argentinian deserves his chance to shine that little bit longer, because he has been magnificent for the North London side.
