Liverpool fans were gushing in their praise of some many of the players in the wake of a slightly nervy but thoroughly well deserved Champions League triumph on Tuesday night. Had Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane performed anywhere near the same level as their teammates, the 1-0 scoreline could have been tripled or quadrupled. Easily. Unlike Mane, Firmino was not guilty of missing a truck load of glorious chances, but his performance was nowhere near the level of his 2017-18 displays. The Brazilian has had an iffy season so far, bordering on poor. There was the odd magical touch from the spearhead of the attack against Napoli, and he worked his socks off. But, as so many supporters pointed out on social media, this wasn’t the Bobby of last season, when he was one of the outstanding front men in Europe. His ball retention was mediocre and too many moves fell down because of poor decision-making.

Mané and Firmino are just hopeless sometimes and our decision making is so poor on counter nowadays. Sideways pass that kills our momentum all the time, and then we resort to a cross. Midfield needs to improve big time, but at least, at least we got our goal before HT.
