Leeds United have turned their attention to trying to sign West Ham attacker Marcus Browne on loan in January, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Championship high flyers are battling with a number of Championship clubs, including West Brom and Sheffield United, to land the 21-year-old.

Football Insider report Browne is on a season-long loan at Oxford United, but West Ham may decide to recall the in-form youngster and then loan him out to a second-tier club.

Good move for Leeds?

Definitely. Browne has made a huge impact during his loan at Oxford this season and looks able to play at a higher level already. The 21-year-old, who can play in the playmaker role just vacated by Samuel Saiz at Elland Road as well as anywhere across the front line, has scored seven goals and supplied four assists from 23 Oxford appearances this season. Those are impressive Pablo Hernandez-esque numbers and demonstrate the calibre of the Hammer, who has made just a single appearance to date for his parent club. With Leeds in need of a new number 10, they would do very well to convince the player and West Ham to agree to a January loan.

Likely to happen?

On the face of it, such a deal would appear difficult. But it is very common for Premier League clubs to terminate season-long loans for their young players in January and then send them to a new club. Leeds would face plenty of competition for Browne’s signature if he was to become available, but Football Insider report West Ham could be convinced that he would benefit from playing at a higher level than League One.
