OPINION
For Tottenham fans, the intense speculation that Manchester United have made Mauricio Pochettino their first choice to permanently replace Jose Mourinho is irritating and worrying. As long as the hot seat at one of the world’s richest and most powerful clubs is vacant, and Pochettino continues to work wonders at Spurs, it is not going to disappear. For certain, the north Londoners need a back-up plan in case the doomsday scenario of Pochettino leaving does materialise. They would be daft not to. The Daily Mail claim Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is Tottenham’s number one choice to replace the Argentine if they can’t persuade him to stay. It is said work on a succession plan has begun and Howe’s reputation for developing players and operating with huge success within a restricted budget has placed his name at the top of Spurs’ list. Many Tottenham fans are dismissive of any notion that Pochettino could leave, while others recognise the qualities of the long-standing Bournemouth boss.

I was really against the idea of Poch going. Still am. But if Eddie Howe is the top replacement it eases the blow. Would he leave Bournemouth though? He loves the club and fans, and they in turn love him. And could he handle the step up? That said, I would love him in
