Many Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to destroy captain James Tavernier for his first-half display against St. Mirren on Saturday.

The home side started well and went close twice in the first half, with Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor denying them with smart saves on both occasions as the sides head into the break at 0-0.

Captain Tavernier has not been in the best of form recently and that seemingly continued in the first half on Saturday, with many fans unhappy with his display.

COMMENTARY

These Rangers fans are pretty unhappy with Tavernier for his first-half display against St. Mirren, and you can understand why. The right-sided flyer looked well out of sorts in the first 45 minutes against the Premiership strugglers, with his defensive work particularly suspect. Tavernier really failed to deal with Australian winger Ryan Edwards at all, with the St. Mirren forward constantly finding a way past him on the right flank. Tavernier’s defensive work has always been second-best after his attacking flair, but he really needs to improve that aspect of his game if he wants to reach the top. That being said, his attacking play was not even on point in that first half, with his delivery into the box leaving a lot to be desired. All in all it was the start of another disappointing display from the Rangers skipper, who really needs to find some form very soon.
