Kris Commons has raved about the impact of Celtic forward James Forrest for Scotland, describing the 27-year-old as ‘simply unplayable’ while labelling his second goal against Albania ‘world-class.’

Forrest notched a double for his country as they kept alive their hopes of Nations League promotion with a big 4-0 win over the Balkan nation last week.

Scotland now need to beat Israel on Tuesday to guarantee promotion to Group B and likely secure a place in the Euro 2020 play-offs, with Commons claiming Forrest entered the ‘world-class’ bracket with his second goal v Albania.

In a column for the Daily Mail, he said: “Forrest is simply unplayable on his day. Just look at the little flick and volleyed finish against Albania. That was world-class.”

OPINION

It is no surprise to see that Forrest is one of the players picked out by Commons, among many other pundits, as a key player for Scotland. The Celtic winger has been in scintillating form all season long for his club, and it is brilliant to see that now begin to translate to the international stage. Albania were admittedly poor opponents but you can only beat what is in front of you, which Scotland managed with aplomb. You feel as though some Scotland sides of the near past may have made much harder work of dispatching Albania, so that is a good sign going forward for McLeish and his team. Forrest was a big part of that, and his second goal was simply sublime, as Commons points out. Hopefully that form can continue into Tuesday’s crucial clash against Israel, with a win there giving Scotland their biggest result in a while.
