A section of Rangers fans have been left thrilled after it was reported that the club has hired Neil Banfield to join Steven Gerrard’s scouting team at Ibrox.
The Times has reported that the 56-year-old left Arsenal at the end of last season after 20 years of working alongside Arsene Wenger as a coach.
And it is now understood he has arrived at Ibrox to help director of football Mark Allen in the recruitment department.
Some Rangers fans are delighted that the club has hired such an experienced person to join their backroom staff, with one saying that it is “great business” by the Glasgow giants.
COMMENTARY:
Rangers fans have every right to be thrilled with Banfield being hired to join the scouting team. He is a man with experience in football and it surely means a lot that he spent two decades with Wenger at Arsenal. The 56-year-old worked with the youngsters at Crystal Palace before joining Arsenal’s academy in 1997. From then he worked with the reserves and eventually the first team. That means that he has a great knowledge of younger players and old, which will really help Rangers create a balanced squad if he is able to scout out some top potential signings. Banfield is more than likely going to be working alongside director of football Mark Allen, suggesting possible signings to the Ibrox chief before Gerrard gives them the green light. Could the Gers be set for another transfer window splurge in January? These Rangers fans are excited by Banfield’s appointment, but they probably want to see the side settle down now rather than being overhauled for the third transfer window in a row.

Also silence those wannabe accountant sleuths who predict doom and gloom based on our financial results. Board continues to back, overhaul and improve all facets of the club
