Gary Lineker has said that Arsenal’s progress under Unai Emery is “significant” after their 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

After coming from behind, with an Alexandre Lacazette goal cancelling out James Milner’s opener, Arsenal could have gone on and won the game, but had to settle for a share of the points.

But Lineker believes it points to a huge step in the right direction and delivered his verdict on Emery after the final whistle.

OPINION

Arsenal might still have their problems at the back but in attack they’re starting to look like the Arsenal of old. And under Emery they seem to have not only turned a corner from the slum in the Wenger era, but they’ve done it playing the same sort of football that wowed fans in their former manager’s heyday. At times they were brilliant against a powerful Liverpool side, fortunate perhaps to get away with a goal that was flagged offside but should have been given, but they more than held their own against the league leaders. The one puzzling aspect of Arsenal under Emery is that they don’t seem to start firing on all cylinders until the second-half. That’s been a feature of their play this season and they’ve rescued more points from losing positions than any other team in the Premier League. If they can sort that out and start playing for 90 minutes how they’re playing in the second-half of games, their progress under Emery will be even more significant.
