Croatia international Sime Vrsaljko is set to miss Inter Milan’s Champions League clash against Tottenham after being absent from training today (Tuesday), according to a Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Sports Italy journalist reported on his personal website that the 26-year-old was the only player who did not practice with the rest of the group in the final training session before the match at the club’s Appiano Gentile headquarters.

OPINION

A proven performer who has had lengthy spells at Atletico Madrid and Dinamo Zagreb, Vrsaljko is on a season-long loan at Inter from the Spanish big guns. How Luciano Spalletti would love to be able to call upon such a capable right-back to quell a dangerous Spurs attack that will go into the match at Wembley on a high after Saturday’s memorable 3-1 win over Chelsea at the same venue. Attacking midfield trio Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen combined superbly in that match, although there is the possibility Mauricio Pochettino could make tweaks to his line-up on Wednesday, with Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura strong candidates to return to the starting XI. Vrsaljko missed the first meeting between the clubs at San Siro in September with a knee injury but he had started to get into a decent rhythm and had emerged as the favoured choice at right-back before breaking down with another problem. His absence is a boost to Spurs’ hopes of extending their winning run.
