Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Tottenham attacker Heung-Min Son after Tottenham’s 3-1 win against Chelsea on Saturday.

He hailed Son as “outstanding” as one of three players that he picked out for Tottenham that won them the game.

Talking on Monday Night Football (Sky Sports, 26/11, 7pm), Carragher said, “I thought the tactics from Pochettino were superb. They changed their system, it was a diamond in midfield. They’ve played it before but not too often.

“We know the reason – getting Dele Alli around Jorginho – but also Son, who I thought was outstanding, and Harry Kane. So often in the game they just counter-attacked, especially Son as we saw in the second-half causing massive problems in those spaces.

“That was the tactics of the game. The diamond midfield, two front, caused huge problems.”

OPINION

This was a real statement of intent from Tottenham. Chelsea, one of their title rivals, were unbeaten before the trip to Wembley, but they were dismantled by Tottenham. A lot of the praise has to go to manager Pochettino for the brilliant tactics. But they only work if you’ve got the players capable of executing your plan and while Harry Kane and Dele Alli get the plaudits from fans and pundits alike, Son is often the one in the shadows. He was immense on Saturday and his attitude is phenomenal. The 26-year-old has never been given a solid run in the first-team. Saturday was only his fourth league start of the season, but Son always gives his all and can usually be counted on to deliver in big games. It was his first league goal of the season on Saturday and he’ll be hoping it’s enough to reward him with more than just a fringe role going forward.
