Former Premier League winner Lee Dixon has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is the world’s best centre forward.

The England captain came to his side’s rescue as he scored twice to secure a 2-1 victory for Spurs over PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, keeping the club’s Champions League hopes alive.

And Dixon was blown away by the frontman: “Harry Kane got two types of goals tonight, but he was there in the right place, the right time, and he’s one of Europe’s best if not the world’s best,” he said on the Football Daily podcast [06/11; 03:04].

“What I’m saying is, as a centre forward – target man – he’s one of the best in Europe if not the best in the world at the game that he plays. If you line up all the type of players like him, he’s up there with the best of them make no mistake about that.”

OPINION

Can anyone still disagree with Dixon’s point, here? Kane has proven over the last few years that he is, without doubt, one of the greatest centre forwards in world football. The England skipper is, arguably, the finest number nine operating in world football today. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and even Sergio Aguero, are not really centre forwards in the same way that Kane is. Kane’s competition for best centre forward in the world is more the likes of Edinson Cavani, Mauro Icardi, Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez but it’s hard not to argue that you’d take Kane over any of that quartet. Suarez is the most naturally talented of those players but the Uruguayan is past his best now, whereas Kane is not even at his best yet. It’s a big claim for Dixon, but it doesn’t sounds anywhere near as outlandish as it used to, that’s for sure.
