Manchester United line up £60m Pickford

Manchester United are lining up a £60m raid for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to replace David De Gea should he leave the club, according to The Sun

The newspaper report that mainstay De Gea is looking more and more likely to leave Old Trafford as he fails to commit to a new long-term contract with the club.

The Sun claim that £60m-rated Toffees star Pickford is seen as the ideal player to take his place, with the 24-year-old proving his mettle this season with some outstanding displays in the big games.

It is said that Jose Mourinho and his staff are all in agreement over Pickford, with the Portuguese a long-term fan of the England stopper.

Good move for Everton?

It depends how you look at it.

In pure footballing terms, no this is not a good move. Pickford is one of the best goalkeepers in the country, and has signed a long-term deal at Goodison Park until 2024.

Losing him would be a blow, with there being few goalkeepers accessible to the club who could come in and fill his boots.

However, if the club were to get £60million for the goalkeeper, that represents a profit of £30million and would provide some cash for investment in other areas of the squad.

Likely to happen?

It is looking more and more likely that De Gea will leave Old Trafford at some point soon, with their being little chance of competing for the biggest trophies there at the moment.

Whether they will be successful in luring Pickford from Merseyside is another matter, although the chance to join such a big club nay be tempting for the 24-year-old.

And, if United did table a £60million bid, then you would think that Everton may in turn be tempted to sell him on.
