A section of football fans have taken to Twitter to hail Granit Xhaka after his display for Switzerland in their stunning 5-2 Nations League triumph against Belgium on Sunday night.
The Arsenal midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the clash as the Swiss came from 2-0 down to complete a barely believable win versus the side that finished in the World Cup semi-finals.
Many supporters were in awe of the contribution of Xhaka, with comments including “masterclass” and “massively improved”.

Social media has been a place that Xhaka has probably wanted to avoid for much of the last few years. He has been regularly highlighted as symptomatic of everything that is wrong with Arsenal, a flat-track bully good enough to overcome domestic and European weaklings but goes missing against the top sides when it really matters. A kind of a lower profile Mesut Ozil. Like the German, Xhaka is wonderfully talented with a dream of a left foot and an all-round passing game to unhinge the best of opponents. He has been a nailed-on starter ever since joining Arsenal after Euro 2016, but his performances have been up and down because he was not in a midfield that could provide the best platform for his talents. With ace-anchorman Lucas Torreira now firmly established at Emirates, finally Arsenal supporters are seeing the best of Xhaka. And so are Swiss ones, too, following one of his most memorable displays for his country in a remarkable match.
