OPINION
Liverpool have been an absolute defensive machine this season so it’s ironic that in one of their biggest games of the season they were undone by sloppiness at the back.
Joe Gomez, quite brilliant so far this season, was out of place at right-back and Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk weren’t their normal selves in the centre.
Andy Robertson was good but only one man really shone at the back and that was goalkeeper Alisson.
He kept his side in the game with a string of great saves and couldn’t be blamed for either of the PSG goals.
It leaves Liverpool in a precarious position in the Champions League with everything hinging on the last game against Napoli.
Put simply, if Liverpool win 1-0 or by two goals they’re guaranteed to qualify. If Liverpool win 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, etc and PSG also win then Liverpool are out. If Liverpool win and PSG draw then Liverpool top the group not matter what they win by.
And if Alisson can perform at the same level in that game then Jurgen Klopp should be contemplating the knockout stage of the Champions League over Christmas.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to regale Wednesday night’s hero even if Alisson couldn’t do enough to help his side get a result.
Here are the best reactions to the Liverpool goalkeeper in France:

Looking at that #LFC performance I think Jurgen got that all wrong. Gomez should be in at centre half with VVD. Has to be. And you want Keita in there with Fabinho too. Hendo has to miss out. Alisson outstanding again with some crucial saves. Rethink needed. Three away defeats.

Alisson was our best player by a mile by the way, looking like a very good signing #LFC

Alisson was our MOTM tonight without question. Was disappointed with the performances of virtually everybody else. #LFC

Alisson really the only person worthy of that red shirt tonight. The rest of teh team has been poor throughout the game. #YNWA #LFC

Alisson has really shown tonight why we paid £65m for him – only reason we’re still in this game at the moment #lfc

Alisson has been astounding. We have no proper DM to make our back 4's lives easier. Gotta just go for the jugular here. Get Keita on. Get Shaqiri on. Lose this game and we are in DEEP shit heading into the final match against Napoli…and I do NOT want that. #LFC
